Correlation of Smoking and hearing problemsThe US study has revealed that the teenager smokers and the children whose mother smoked during pregnancy are at a strong peril of hearing problems.Another study showed that the smokers are 70% more apt than non-smokers to suffer hearing problems. Yale University examined 67 teenagers smokers and found that they had difficulty in focusing and interpreting sounds when there was a distraction.
The team further added that the scans showed exposure changed the brain’s white matter, responsible for transmitting messages.
The researchers consider that the production of white matter in excess is due to nicotine stimulating a chemical compound called acetylcholine. The study was published in New Scientist magazine. Read More
