K-Electric holds the Pride of Karachi Awards at Mohatta Palace

K-Electric (KE), formerly known as KESC, on the completion of their 100 year existence conducted the ‘KE Pride of Karachi Awards’ at the historical Mohatta Palace on Sunday, where the honorable Governor Sind Dr. Ishratul Ibad was present as the Chief Guest. 

KE has been an integral part of Karachi for over 100 years serving more than 20 million consumers and employing over 11,000 residents of Karachi. Having completed this milestone, KE is even more committed to working towards the betterment of this glorious city.

"Treasures of Islamic Art" Gallery attracts art-lovers in Karachi. “Treasures of Islamic Art Gallery” was recently launched by Ruheena Malik in (Please add the name of the place here, instead of saying Clifton), Karachi. A colorful inauguration ceremony was held on Friday, 17th January 2014, where Formal Federal Minister and Ex-Ambassador to USA – Ms. Sherry Rahman was the chief guest. 
Ruheena Malik is a seasoned artist, blessed by Allah with an abundant talent of Calligraphy. She is an impassioned soul, to whom art comes from within. Her self-acquired calligraphic skills came about as a result of divine intervention.
Ms. Malik has been honored with a “Pride of Performance Award”, presented by the President of Pakistan on “Pakistan Day”- 23rd of March 2009, in appreciation of her outstanding services in the field of Art and calligraphy.

Jamal Rahman, acclaimed music producerand CEO of True Brew Records, collaborated with LussunTV, Rafi Peer and Cityfm89 at Peeru’s Café on Sunday 26^th January 2014 on the first of itskind all day live music festival ‘Storm in a Teacup'. The all-day live music festival brought together the best of Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore's independent bands including Poor Rich Boy (and the Toothless Winos), Natasha Humera Ejaz, Sikandar Ka Mandar, //orangenoise, Shajie, Ali Suhail, Red Blood Cat and Lower Sindh! and the Swing Orchestra in a seven hour music extravaganza.

Speaking about ‘Storm in a Teacup’music producer Jamal Rahman said,

“The True Brew Records show, Storm in a Teacup, was a bigger step forward in my pursuit of really pushing the live music scene in Pakistan, that I first started with my ‘Live at True Brew’ shows. The guy named Kamran entered into a private airline office near Shimla Pahari, a few hours ago today and  demanded to meet a girl, worked in the airline office, whom he romantically involved with. The girl refused to meet with him and hid herself in the washroom.
On the other hand the boy threatened to shoot himself with a pistol if he not allowed to meet the girl. He said that he is in a relationship with a girl for three years and now the girl declared him to be a brother.
Later on, the police succeeded to grab the boy  and took him into custody.

Steve McQueen’s film ‘12 Years A Slave’ bags Golden Globe Award. Steve McQueen, the former student of Goldsmith, has bagged a Golden Globe award last night for her film 12 Years A Slave. The Golden Globe Awards ceremony was held at Beverley Hills, included much entertainment and glamor.
McQueen, who studied Fine Art at the New Cross university, made the film 12 years A Slave based on the true story of New Yorker Solomon Northup pre-civil war slavery as an adult.
It won just one award out of seven nominations.

Coke Studio releases its Fifth and final episode of Season 6 featuring “Miyan Ki Malhaar” by Ayesha Omar, Fariha Pervez, Zara Madani and Rustam Fateh Ali Khan, “Allah Hu” by Saieen Zahoor featuring Abrar-ul-Haq, “Moray Naina” by Zara Madani and “Sawaal – Kande Utte” by Ali Azmat and Muazzam Ali Khan. Bringing nature’s intricacies to the mix this season is the story of ‘Miyan Ki Malhaar’.   

A raag that is based on the rainy season, in this presentation of the raag, the song sees the flow of the oncoming rain first heard from afar, flowing into the drizzle and finally into the crash of lightning and thunder in its full downpour. Ayesha Omar opens the song reminiscing about the beauty of the raag that is known to actually cause rain in classical tradition. The underlying tone of the verses’ cyclic chants is one of imminent release – an almost looming feel that is felt in the instrumentation by the band in Serbia and distinctly felt in the groove of the bass line.
