Microsoft Pakistan held an exclusive event for Pakistani corporate customers in the presence of Worldwide CTO for Lync, Aamer Kaleem at the Pearl Continental Hotel, Karachi. 
Aamer Kaleem travelled all the way from Seattle to engage with Pakistani customers- a growing market which Microsoft is keenly interested in.  The discussion provided a detailed insight on “Microsoft Lync”, a software which provides organizations integrated communication solutions designed to cut costs and improve productivity.  At this occasion Microsoft Country Manager Pakistan, Amir Rao, shared worldwide enterprise communication trends and discussed how customers in Pakistan could benefit from Microsoft Lync. “The way we connect and interact with people, information and organizations is evolving, and those changes have tremendous impact in the workplace,” said Amir Rao, “With Lync, Pakistanis can now reduce communication costs and increase productivity levels within their organizations for a better customer satisfaction experience.” He added.

Being the central bank of Pakistan with countrywide operations, State Bank of Pakistan felt the need to centralize its applications to reach all its branches. Wateen’s VSAT Bandwidth on PAKSAT Satellite will connect 15 State Bank sites. This will reduce the costs on distributed backend operations of State Bank of Pakistan by bringing them to the front end with the centralization of core backend applications.

During this three year project, starting this month, Wateen Telecom will maintain PAKSAT satellite Bandwidth and will provide 24-hour (SLA) services to State Bank of Pakistan.

Samsung Electronics Announces Fourth Quarter & FY 2013 Results
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced revenues of 59.28 trillion Korean won on a consolidated basis for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2013, which is an increase of 0.3 percent quarter-on-quarter. For the quarter, the company posted consolidated operating profits of 8.31 trillion won, representing an 18-percent decline Q-o-Q. Consolidated net profit for the quarter was 7.30 trillion won.
 In its earnings guidance disclosed on January 7, Samsung estimated fourth quarter consolidated revenues would reach approximately 59 trillion won with consolidated operating profit of approximately 8.3 trillion won.
The fourth quarter results brought Samsung’s full year 2013 revenue to an all-time high of 228.69 trillion won, up 14 percent from the previous year. Year-end net income registered 30.47 trillion won and Samsung netted 36.79 trillion won in operating profit, a 27-percent on-year increase.

LG to Launch G Pro 2 with Fingerprint Scanner. The reports said that LG is planning to launch the successor of it Optimus Pro G smartphone with the finger print scanner feature. The new LG G Pro 2 Smartphone will be unveiled at the Mobile world conference (MWC) next month. The reports said that the new G Pro 2 phone will feature a 5.9 inch Quad HD display, an octa-core processor, and a 16-megapixel rear-camera.
The reports also claimed that the Korean company has made up its mind to introduce all the upcoming smartphones with fingerprint scanner technology.

Yahoo become the most-visited Online Venue in US. Yahoo was become the most-visited online website in the US on desktop PCs in December. Now the increasing number of smartphone users in the US also try to revolve around it to connect with the internet.
Yahoo sustained to hold a top it claimed in August of last year after edging past Google in a ComScore ranking of online properties most regularly visited from desktop computers in the United States.

US: $28 Million bitcoins seized from Silk Road Server. A large number of bitcoins worth $28 million have been seized by the US. These bitcoins were taken into custody from the black website Silk Road’s server and transferred to the US government several months after it was seized. The reports said that the US government claimed that this currency was used to facilitate money laundering. This action came just a day after the when a Manhattan judge approved the penalty of the bitcoins and the website.  
The move also comes three months after San Francisco entrepreneur Ross Ulbricht was arrested on charges he operated an online marketplace for illegal drugs.
